From a young age, John took his studies, prayers, and self-discipline very seriously. When he was finally able to enter seminary, his greatest suffering began: many of his classmates and superiors persecuted him for his love for and faithfulness to Christ! After enduring this, his ordination was put off due to his bishop becoming ill. Without much money or a recommendation from his bishop, John went to America where German speaking priests were greatly needed. There, he was ordained and ministered as a parish priest to a vast area in rugged conditions. Several years after enduring this, he joined the Redemptorist community in Pittsburgh, PA.
