At a young age, he began doing acts of penance out of love for our Lord. With his sacrifice of self-will came an ardent longing for Christ in the Eucharist. However, he was not yet of age to receive. He continued to surrender to God’s holy will in his job as a tailor and in his service to a cruel bishop.
