Icon Jesus and Mary Bookends

These alabaster bookends feature Byzantine icons of both Mary and Jesus. Jesus is here depicted as Christ the teacher with the ornate book He holds, symbolizing that He is the Truth. Mary is depicted in the Eastern style as the Mother of God. Her blue clothing represents her humanity, while the red outer garment symbolizes the Divine mission and role she has been given. The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs.
